Activities

Fieldwork Practicum and Block Placement

A cornerstone of the MSW curriculum is the Fieldwork Practicum, conducted in every
semester. Students are placed in professional social work settings for 21 working days each
semester to gain hands-on experience. In the fourth semester, students undergo a one-month
block placement, allowing them to work full-time in an organization and engage in deeper
professional practice.

Foundation Activities

The first semester is carefully designed to lay a strong foundation in social work practice
through various experiential learning opportunities:
● Induction Programme: Introduces students to the ethos and scope of social work.
● Community Living Camp: Promotes team spirit, cultural sensitivity, and community
engagement.
● Observation Visits: Provides exposure to various governmental and non-governmental
agencies, helping students understand the real-world dynamics of social work.
● Skill Development Training: Focuses on enhancing essential communication and
presentation skills. This includes sessions on public speaking, overcoming stage fear,
confidence building, and effective interpersonal communication—preparing students to
engage meaningfully in both academic and professional settings.
Academic Enrichment Activities
To continually enhance the academic and professional development of students, the department
regularly organizes:
● National and Regional Conferences
● Thematic Workshops
● Expert Talks and Guest Lectures

These platforms help students engage with contemporary issues, learn from experienced
professionals, and refine their skills in specialized domains of social work.

Dissertation and Research Training

In the fourth semester, students undertake a dissertation as a core academic requirement. This
research project enables them to develop a strong foundation in social work research
methodologies, critical analysis, and evidence-based practice.

Study Tour

A national and international study tour is organized during the third semester, offering
students the opportunity to visit premier institutions and leading social work agencies across
India and abroad. This initiative enhances students’ understanding of best practices, innovations,
and policy frameworks in the field.
